Leslie de Klerk, owner of Dakota from the
2009 Josey/Natasha breeding who lives in South Africa:

Hi Mary and Bill,
Can you believe Dakota is 11 weeks old today?
Last night he went to the hospital with me, and today we visited the old
folks. He was a little superstar!
He and Willow worked with 2 little boys at the hospital who had been
attacked by a Labrador – I was stunned when I found this out. Anyway, they
lay on the bed with the boy who had been badly bitten on the neck area,
and slowly but surely they won him over, and then his brother too. We took
photos but not with my camera so I’ll send them on in a day or so.
Today Dakota had a ride in a wheelchair sitting on an old gent’s lap, and
he kept saying “he’s so lovely and warm”.
Now I’m going to brag – he already gives a paw, high 5 and speaks on
command – how is that for 11 weeks – I’d say super intelligent!
I am thrilled to bits with him! Will send on the photos when I get them,
and thanks so much Mary for the vet records.
Regards Lesley
Hi
everyone,
10 years ago Shiloh arrived here in South Africa – almost at exactly the
same time of year – and now another little Shiloh boy – Dakota!
The Lord has blessed me with these wonderful creatures AND the people that
made it possible. Chary, all those years ago you took a giant leap of
faith by sending your precious fur baby to me, and then Cheyanne. Kodi
followed and now little Dakota. Chary, Bill and Mary – you are very
special people – Bless you all!
Kind regards,
Lesley
Hi Bill,
Dakota is indeed
everything I had hoped for .... and more. He is VERY people orientated –
which I love.
As you can see from the latest photographs, they had a very exciting day
today. It is truly amazing how they adapt. They are quite confident
puppies at this point – they had absolutely no problems whatsoever today
with the Autistic kids. We didn’t overdo it – we stayed for about an hour
and a half – but they were really tired out when we finished. They are
eating well and have fitted in like they were always a part of my family.
We
are going into winter here, so the weather is great. We have cool/cold
nights and morning, but warm pleasant days. I just need to get their
vaccination history from Mary ASAP as my vet needs the info to see where
they are with regards to shots that may still be needed for over here!
Thank you so much Bill – I still need to pinch myself to make sure that
I’m not dreaming and Dakota is really here!
Regards Les

Paws
for People
Hi
Bill and Mary,
We
had a visit scheduled today to a place called “Little Stars” – which is a
day school – Holistic Intervention for Children with Pervasive
Developmental Disorders Specialising in Autism Spectrum Disorder
I
decided that it might be a good idea for the puppies to go, and what a hit
they were. The teachers were amazed at how they enabled the children to
actually sit still for about an hour – and the affection these children
showed them. They told us that they can’t get the kids to sit still for 15
minutes so we really started something today – they want us to visit on a
regular basis!!
The
puppies of course behaved beautifully!
I
did warn you guys that you would get sick of updates from me – so here
goes – more photos of our little Shiloh fur babies’ first day in South
Africa!

Golenbiewski, owner of Tucker from the 2008 Josey/Natasha
breeding who lives in Cary, North Carolina:

I
took Tucker to a huge dog fest yesterday. It's called Bark in
the Park and it's held every spring in
Raleigh.
There were at least a couple of thousand people in attendance.
You would have been so proud of the Tuckster. He just strolled
through the crowds and took it all in stride. We were
constantly stopped by people who asked about his breed and where
we got him. So you may get some calls. Some people were
actually following us around asking if they could take Tucker’s
picture. Some wanted pictures of him alone; some wanted their
dogs in the pictures too. I was quite star struck! I entered
him in the largest dog contest and he came in second place to a
huge Irish Wolfhound. They measured Tucker at the shoulders and
said they came up with 30". They also measured from his nose to
the tip of his tail and came up with 6 feet. I don't know how
accurate their measurements are but he is now 14 months old and
per the vet weighs 118 pounds. So it looks to me like he has
grown just a bit!
I
was so proud of his demeanor the whole day and wanted to make
sure you knew how well he behaved. This was his first time in
such a huge crowd. He never barked or growled at anyone, not
even other dogs. He was so good with the children that wanted
to pet him. He even laid down so that one little girl could sit
with him for quite some time while I spoke with her parents. We
were there for 4 hours and he was the perfect gentleman. The
only thing he did not like was when people would try to kiss him
or hold him in a prolonged hug and I sure can't blame him for
that! But even when that happened he would just back away until
they let go. What a good boy!
I
have to thank you again for allowing me to have Tucker in my
life. With his beauty, size, conformation and temperament, he
is not only a breeder's dream come true but mine as well. He
has well exceeded my dreams and expectations of the true
Shiloh Shepherd that made me fall in love with the
breed in the first place. I hope that you will consider putting
this letter on your website as a testament to the fine
Shiloh pups that you produce. I only wish that I lived closer
to you all so that you could all get to know Tucker first hand.
He is the most amazing dog. This is most definitely a line that
must be continued!

Bill Kolb, owner of
Jake and Griffin from the Josey/Aurora breeding who live in Zion,
Illinois:

Sorry for the long period of silence.
The Boys are fine. They have really developed their personalities. Jake is
my constant shadow. Our no. 2 daughter had her second child about 3 1/2
weeks ago by C-section. 2 days after the birth, she had a massive blood
clot in the arteries leading to both lungs. They moved her to a big
hospital where they immediately performed essentially open heart surgery
although what they really did was split her chest open and remove the
clot. Scared us to death as we all of a sudden where faced with raising to
small kids, one 3 years old and one 4 days old. She is home now but
the day of the surgery once we knew that she was okay we did liberate our
new grandson from the hospital and brought him home with us. Now old Mr.
Jake immediately took charge of "his baby". Talk about a mother hen!!!!!
Good grief! That big nose would slide in real close to the baby and check
him from stem to stern. Then he was "on guard" literally 'round the clock.
If someone who he didn't know very well tried to hold the baby he was
right there, between them and the baby, in their lap if they were holding
him, whimpering and carrying on until some one acceptable to him took the
baby back. Amazing. He would lay next to the bassinet and every little
noise that the baby made made all we would see is two big ears pop up and
then a nose and then two eyes looking over the situation. God help us if
that baby messed his diaper and we didn't get to it instantly. Jake would
take one sniff of the kids bottom end and then come looking for anyone
that he thought should handle getting that mess off of that kid. My
daughter probably would have had a heart attach if she knew just how much
Jake was taking up for the baby but we knew almost immediately that we
would not deter him from his self appointed duty. Grif was just about as
bad although Kelly and Phil kept him and Sherlock away quite a bit as we
had diaper central at our house. Now Debbie has taken both Haley and
Hunter home to their mom and dad and will stay with them for this week.
Jake is lost looking for the kids and Debbie and hanging real close to me.
We have had to comfort he and my other grand daughter Kaylynn as they both
miss Haley, Hunter and Debbie. Thanks, Bill
Jake and Grif are really
enjoying the snow. Tell Dottie not worry about the cold and those two.
Jake likes to lay out in the middle of the yard---at -11 and bask in the
blowing snow!!! We call and call and then try to entice him with treats
and what does he do? Takes the treats and goes back out in the yard!!!
Jake hollers at me if I don't take him with me everywhere I go. Doesn't
matter where, he just wants to go. We were up at Kelly and Phil's last
night and Grif was giving me a hard time. We finally figured out that he
expected Jake to be with us. What a couple of characters. Both Jake and
Grif "show" me where the treats are kept. Pretty tough to not understand
the message when they sit with their noses hard pressed on the box where
we keep the treats. Their intake is about 2 1/2 times what they eat in the
summer and we watch that they get enough very closely. I am surprised that
the cold doesn't seem to penetrate their coats. At best it seems that the
cold only gets in about 1/4". I have been out with them both and run my
fingers down into their coats and they are warm, no doubt. We do have to
watch the ice balls in the feet but other than that they seem pretty
weather proof. We are careful if they get wet but with below zero
temperatures wet has not been a problem. Jake is funny when he eats as
several times during his feeding he runs into see where I am and then goes
back and sticks his head in the feed. He also has taken up being a lap
dog. Seems like I can't hug any of the girls including the little ones
without Jake getting a little jealous and leaping full bore up into my
lap. It is pretty funny. He does the same thing if Debbie gets up out of
bed. Jake immediately jumps in the bed, lays his head on the pillow and
then pushes on me to scratch him. Of course he always gets scolded when
Debbie gets back but that doesn't seem to phase him. I am still amazed at
how Jake and Grif both tolerate and handle the little kids. I have been
around dogs all my life and I have never seen them act like these guys do.
It is amazing. Kaylynn loves Jake and Grif both and on these cold days
takes full advantage of their warmth, soft coats and great dispositions.
The hell of it is that I think Jake and Grif enjoy as much or more than
Kaylynn. Anyway, they are doing great, are enjoying the snow, are becoming
great adults and sure have a great time chasing the grandkids! Bill |

Matt and Chelsea Kane,
owners of Desparado from the Josey/Aurora breeding who live in Durham, NC:

Dear Bill
and Dotty, Here are some of our pictures of our wonderful life with
Rutabaga (Desperado)! This album includes our trip from your home to ours,
hanging around at home with his kitty sisters, Pumpkin and Squash, a trip
to the Outer Banks for Thanksgiving with his cousins, Riley and Maverick,
and his girlfriend, Stella Bean, a hike around Jordan Lake, and a picture
of him watching the squirrels from the door at work, where he joins us
every day! We are so happy he is part of our life, ...
Hope all is going well with Joey’s latest. As Chelsea
mentioned, Rutabaga (Desperado) is doing great. He did have a stomach
issue (possibly bacterial) over the holidays and got down to about 95lbs
but after a few visits to the vet and a lot of home cooking, he is up to a
lean 108lbs and still growing. His typical schedule is a 3 mile walk in
the morning followed by a day of entertaining visitors at my lab. He
also loves to chase the deer and squirrels that lurk outside my office.
He has gotten most of the basic commands down (sit, stay, etc) but does
still pull on the leash from time to time – his owners are still learning. |
